Artist Statement:

My artistic process contains a balance of planned, structured design, and spontaneous decision-making.  This work is about experimentation, the complexity of surface, and the challenge to maintain unity within the images. What intrigues me most about my process is the materials I utilize.  Newspaper, wax paper, glue, bee’s wax, flour, plastic wrap, chewing gum, grout, and many other materials are layered on the surface of my large wooden structures.  I am on a constant search for materials that can be infused into the surface of my work, and I enjoy using these simple materials and transforming them into art.

Spontaneity is essential in my process, as decisions are made in the moment according to my mood and what materials are within my reach.  The colors and surfaces of my work can change drastically in a studio session, and most of my paintings have many personalities before they are deemed complete.  This process is a reflection of my personality, as it contains many layers, it is experimental, and is open to change at any moment.
