When I see my art on a wall, all I want is people to question it. Question the textures, question the meaning, question my sanity.
I started my summer work based off of my last piece of last school year, I wanted everything to be about texture and abstraction. I wanted all my works to compliment each other, but not be the same; unfortunately the middle one does not really compliment the other two.
Texture makes my work what it is, I like being able to take things such as old newspaper, or chewed gum in my art, most people think of these things as trash, but I try to make them beautiful. Layers are another important aspect of my art--I cannot get to the final product in just one or two layers, I must add and add until I decide that it's done. My art could always use more and I can always pickup on a painting that I could consider to be finished and add more, but I would drive myself crazy trying to finish.
Organic shapes are important to me; I like the randomness of my art. A lot of my art goes very well with my other pieces, but there are distinctions between them, even in the viewer cannot tell, I can--I might have used a different method for applying glue, or used another interesting medium to create texture.
My plan for Art V is to continue with large, 4x4 paintings with plenty of texture and depth to them. I plan on experimenting with new color schemes and ways to create images--the blind contour portraits may come back up throughout the year, but I plan on working more with these weird meaningless shapes that I create on my computer. Maybe even start doing blind contours of things other than people.
My key goal is to create a portfolio that would win awards at Scholastics and have a cohesive senior show within the next 3 months.
